The K1 million (about $3 333) Central Region Arthur Mutharika women’s football league goes into action (Saturday) tomorrow at Lilongwe Community Centre ground.

According to Central Region Women Football League (CRWFL) general secretary Shambashe Kadzamira, the league has lined up three games.

One Goal Queens will open the season with a game against Chisomo Ideal, the second game will be between DD Sunshine and SOS Queens while the third game will be between Kamuzu Barracks and Park United.

“There is improvement in the region as new teams have been formed such us Chisomo Ideal and Park United. This will enhance competition in the league,” said Kadzamira.

One Goal Queens coach Yasin Zidana said they are prepared to win the championship this season because they have assembled a good squad.

Meanwhile, defending champions DD Sunshine Senior has been disbanded following wrangles between some senior players and the club over Presidential Cup prize money, according to captain Chisomo Kadzisonga.

Following the development, the club that had two teams DD Sunshine Senior and DD sunshine Youth has now formed one team called DD Sunshine.

In an interview on Wednesday, the club’s owner and patron David Dube said he has decided to form one team to enhance competition among players.

“Some players were lazy because the time we had two teams, each team had exact number of players, so there was no competition,” said Dube.
