CRCL fails to access their bank account

Central Region Chess League (CRCL) risks losing Mdina Business Solutions sponsorship for regional competitions because of poor handovers.

According to CRCL chairperson Stanley Kafere, the new CRCL is failing to access its bank account because there was no change in signatories to the account and this will affect their preparations for the Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) Clubs Championship.

Kafere disclosed this development on Monday when asked about progress on the clubs’ contest following Chessam’s warning that they would not release funding for the competition to their regional affiliates who are not preparing for the event.

“The problem has been worsened by the fact that the former treasurer Mike Msyali, who is one of the signatories, currently lives in South Africa and the bank cannot allow us to use the account without him signing for us.

“We are also worried because Mdina Business Solutions might have used the account to send us money for the forthcoming regional competition soon,” said Kafere.

He, however, said they are planning to open another account.

Meanwhile, Chessam president Kezzie Msukwa has announced that they will only release K100 000 (about $400) for the Clubs Championships to the Northern Region Chess League (NRCL) since it is the only affiliate that is preparing for the event.
