Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (Creccom) has urged girls in Thyolo District to work hard in class to achieve their goals.

Speaking on Saturday during a motivational talk at Ntambanyama Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Traditional Authority (T/A) Nkhwethemule in the district, Creccom trustee Jean Kayira said they wanted to encourage girls to pursue education to become productive citizens.

She said: “This talk is very important because we want to reach every girl and encourage them that it is possible to become an influential person.

“Working hard is not an option for a student, but a must and it includes even making sure that they have a proper timetable to guide them on how to study.”

Creccom chief executive officer Alinafe Irene Chibwana said apart from counselling service, Let Girls Learn II Project supports girls with school materials.

“The project also empowers mother groups with finances to support the girls,” she said.

Ntambanyama CDSS mother group chairperson Ruth Banda said this year they encouraged five girls who got pregnant to return to school.

“We work in collaboration with traditional leaders and we establish by-laws that guide parents to encourage their children to go to school,” she said.

One of the girls, Rebecca Makhuwira, thanked Creccom for the motivational talk.

“The motivational talk has inspired me to work hard in class to achieve my goal,” she said.

Let Girls Learn II Project is being implemented in Thyolo, Mulanje, Ntchisi and Chitipa targeting 36 CDSSs and primary schools with funding from Echidna.
