Cricket matches back

Two matches in the Oriental Cricket Club (OCC) 20-overs Tournament will be played today after a heavy downpour forced organisers to reschedule the games.

According to the competition’s organising committee general secretary Saeed Limdawala, the matches were rescheduled last Sunday after the cricket field was waterlogged.

Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) White were supposed to take on MSC Purple at the Indian Sports Club (ISC) while hosts were paired against MSC Blue. These fixtures will be fulfilled tomorrow.

MSC Yellow will meet MSC green at the OCC while MSC Brown will take on MSC Grey.

“The rains were just unbearable for the matches to carry on last weekend. We hope that it will not be the case with the latest fixtures this afternoon,” he said.

Last Sunday, MSC Gold and hosts OCC shared a point apiece after their game ended prematurely and was declared a draw due to the rains.

The only match that was completed was an afternoon encounter between rivals MSC Orange and MSC Silver, which ended in favour of MSC Orange. Orange made 152 runs against Silver’s 146 runs.

Despite Silver producing man of the match in Aasif Rustam, who  had 68 runs, they could not match Orange’s overall performance.

“It was a great game only that the field was not in very good shape. We accepted defeat and we will do our best to win our next match,” Rustam said. n
