The incumbent president from Eastern Region Pool League (ERPL), who has served for two years, was elevated to the position after Francis Zhuwao resigned due to personal commitments.

Banda confirmed to The Nation of his ambitions to contest for the highest position.

“I have decided to stand because of the manner the office has been run. People have lost trust in the current leadership on issues of transparency and accountability. Failure to secure sponsorship also shows lack of seriousness by the committee. So, my plans are to improve in those areas.

“There also hasn’t been constant communication between Malawi National Council of Sports [MNCS] and Mapa which affected the operations of the association,” claimed Banda.

This will be the second time for Banda to contest for the association’s presidential post.

He lost to Zhuwao in the previous elections that were held at Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS) four years ago.

Meanwhile, former Central Region Pool League (CRPL) tournament director Ben Kaukondo has also expressed interest to contest for the position of vice general secretary while Mapa general secretary Saulos Thindwa will seek re-election.
