Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has announced that the flagship TNM Super League will wrap up on December 3 with eight fixtures lined up.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda in an interview yesterday said despite rescheduling some matches involving FCB Nyasa Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, who have each contributed more than three players to the Flames squad for back-to-back Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Liberia today and Tunisia next Tuesday, this will not have an impact on the calendar.

Banda: We have rescheduled the matches

Bullets have contributed Blessings Mpokera, Lanjesi Nkhoma, Patrick Mwaungulu and Frank Willard while the Nomads have Lawrence Chaziya, Christopher Kumwembe, Stanley Sanudi, Wisdom Mpinganjira and Francisco Madinga in the squad.

Sulom regulations stipulate that teams that contribute more than three players are exempted from fixtures.

The defending champions, who lead the log table with 56 points from 27 matches, were expected to face Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar while Wanderers were expected to host Mighty Wakawaka Tigers on November 22, but the matches will now be played on November 23.

Said Banda: “Malawi will play Tunisia on November 21. So, we have rescheduled the matches to a day later to give the players at least a day to recover.

“Bullets’ match against Karonga United which was initially set for November 29 has also been rescheduled to November 30.”

Sulom has also rescheduled matches involving Moyale Barracks and Mafco as well as Silver Strikers and Kamuzu Barracks to November 23.

This means eight fixtures will be played on the last day of the season on December 3 with Bullets concluding the season against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The other matches on December 3 will involve Moyale and Red Lions, Bangwe All Stars and Karonga United, Ekwendeni Hammers and Dedza Dynamos, Extreme and Chitipa United, Kamuzu Barracks and Mighty Tigers, Blue Eagles and Mafco as well as Civil Service United and Wanderers.

In spite of Sulom concluding the season on the said date, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will still have a backlog of fixtures in Airtel Top 8 and Castel Challenge Cup.

The Airtel Top 8 is stuck following a prolonged case involving Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers quarter-final first leg abandoned match.

Bullets are through to the semi-finals where they face Blue Eagles, but Mafco have to wait for their opponent until the Silver and Wanderers case verdict.

The Castel Challenge Cup, on the other hand, is in round of 16 and will be played after the Fifa international window, according to FAM competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka.
