He also confirmed the appointment of Douglas Katchomoza as MRA executive director for corporate services, replacing Agnes Katsonga Phiri who retired alongside Biziwick.

“The law mandates the minister to approve these appointments. What remains now is for the board to give the two offer letters. We have done our part to recommend the appointments and we expect that the two will report for duty this week,” said the minister.

Daka previously served in several positions at MRA, including as legal services manager while Katchomoza currently works as one of the commissioners at the tax collector.

But in a separate interview yesterday, MRA head of corporate affairs Steve Kapoloma said they were yet to be informed of the appointments.

Contracts for Biziwick and Katsonga Phiri expired on August 11 2024.

In a press statement last week, the MRA board expressed sincere gratitude for what they called exceptional service and dedication displayed by Biziwick and Katsonga Phiri.

Re a c t i n g t o h i s appointment, Daka in an interview last evening said he was excited and grateful to God.

He said: “I thank God for using other people to get to me with this position. I also thank the President [Lazarus Chakwera] for trusting me with the position. Malawians should definitely expect that I will deliver.”

Daka obtained a master’s degree in international criminal law from the University of Western Cape in South Africa in 2013 and a bachelor of law from the University of Malawi in 2004.
