Daliso returns for ‘Laughgate’

Comedian Daliso Chaponda returns to Malawi for his third show this month. Dubbed Laughgate to be held in Lilongwe at the Bingu International Conference Centre on April 25, the event promises a night out laughter.

Set to open with support acts Dee Satha, Neil Nayer and a hip hop performance by Blantyre-based artists Classik of the Homegrown duo and Viceroy, the show will kick off at 8pm.

“There have been all manner of scandals in Malawi and the rest of the world in the last few years. It is about scandals like Cashgate, Nipplegate and Gamergate. Some of them quite ridiculous while others are depressing. Laughgate will simply be hilarious,” Daliso enthuses.

The artist, who was recently showcased as one of the Top 6 Funny People to Watch from Africa named by CNN’s African Voices, last performed in Malawi in 2013 in a show called Presidents of Laughrica alongside fellow comedians: Zimbabwe’s Carl Joshua and Patrick Salvador from Uganda.

The multi-talented comedian, has since his last Malawian show, toured Belgium, Romania, Singapore, Uganda, South Africa, Zimbabwe and UK among others.

He also took time to release a book, as well as filmed his first DVD at the 2014 Hifa Festival called Barely Legal, and had one of his plays produced on

BBC radio.

Furthermore, Daliso has also appeared on BBC’s Britain versus The Rest of The World and on Loaded TV and Kenya’s Night of 1 000 Laughs.

According to the show’s organisers, Qoncept Creative,  “All tickets will be sold in advance. There will be no tickets for sale at the door.”
