Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) has welcomed the establishment of Zomba and Districts Darts League (ZDDL).

ZDDL has broken free from Blantyre and Districts Darts League (BDDL), thereby increasing to four DAM affiliates which include Lilongwe and Districts Darts League (LDDL) and Mzuzu and Districts Darts League (MDDL).

DAM new general secretary Kelvin Nyirenda, who recently replaced Joe Zangazanga at an annual general meeting held in Lilongwe, confirmed the news on Wednesday.

“After playing for a year as a sub-league of BDDL, Eastern Division teams covering Zomba, Machinga, Balaka and Mangochi have something to celebrate. This follows the Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) endorsement of the birth of the new league,” Nyirenda explained.

“The darts fraternity welcomes this development and can boast of having four darts leagues in Malawi. This is a great achievement and signals continued growth of the game in Malawi. Teams from Zomba and surrounding areas and those in Blantyre will minimise costs due to reduction of long trips and will only be meeting during national tournaments.”

The Zomba league will initially have teams such as the Balaka Darts Club, Chanco Scorpions, Chanco Students, Domasi College of Education, Eagle Arrows and Malawi Institute of Education.

“We expect more teams to join this new league from nearby areas. The league will still [benefit] from Deekay Suppliers sponsorship. The company sponsors all darts leagues in Malawi,” Nyirenda added.
