Gospel hip hop artist David Kalirani has won Best Afro Rap artist at the Africa Gospel Music Awards held in London two weeks ago.

David told The Nation that he was honoured in absentia because he missed the ceremony as he was moving to Mzuzu at the time of the function.

“The organisers of the award ceremony just sent the gong of the award and I will receive it very soon,” said David.

He said he is excited that he has won the award further describing it as a humbling experience since he was nominated with people who have been in the industry for a long time.

“I never really expected this, I have not released any new song lately and to be awarded was such a surprise. I thank God for that,” said the Exodus hit maker.

David was last year nominated in two categories in the same awards Best Album of the Year and Best Afro Rap artist last year but missed out on both.

According to their website www.africagospelawards.com, The Africa Gospel Awards which is under Africa Gospel Music Association (Agma) was found in 2009 to celebrate the gospel through Africa-fusion music of all styles.

The event was streamed live to the USA and Africa, with the support of OHTV.
