Presidential Cup defending champions DD Sunshine Senior and their youth side made resounding starts to this year’s campaign on Saturday after they beat St Johns 18-0 and Chisomo Academy 9-0, respectively at Chitedze Community Centre ground in Lilongwe.

Their victories have made them leaders of Group A and B, respectively, in the Central Region encounters. Each group has five teams and will be represented in the regional semi-finals by two top teams. One Goal Queens took the second place in Group A after beating Mpalo FC 2-0.

Livewire Linda Kasenda was on target seven times for the defending champions as Tabitha Chabinga and Latifa Malunjika followed with five and three goals each. The other goals were scored by Chisomo Kadzisonga, Annia Lizi and Elube Botomani.

DD Sunshine Youth earned their victory through Rachel Gomani’s four goals alongside Fanny Mwale and Zeni Joseph’s braces and Sabina Amidu’s strike.

“It is good that all my teams have won their first games, but we still have more work to do before qualifying into the semis. The semi-finalists will be determined after each team plays four games,” said DD Sunshine director David Dube.

Meanwhile, the Southern Region encounter between Blantyre Zero and King’s Ladies, which was scheduled at Chiwembe ground on Saturday, has been shifted to July 1 due to some logistical problems.
