Decade of Ufulu Festival

Saturday was fun-filled for those who attended the Ufulu Festival, which brought people from all walks of life to celebrate freedom.

Held at the Grand Business Park in Lilongwe and organised by Flood Church Malawi, entry to the festival was free of charge.

One of the highlights of this year’s event was that it also marked its 10th anniversary of the Ufulu Festival in Malawi.

Initially, scheduled for July 6, the event was postponed due to the national mourning for the death of Vice-President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others in a plane crash on June 10 2024.

A moment of silence was also observed in honour of other fallen artists.

Ufulu Festival seeks to bring young people together to celebrate Malawi’s independence, art, and culture while providing them with an opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This was reflected throughout the course of the festival as activities took various messages of the freedom in Christ.

The day started with games and creative sessions for children, setting a joyful tone for the rest of the event.

As the day progressed, a variety of artists took to the stage, entertaining the audience who danced and sang along, adding to the already lively atmosphere.

After the performances one of the organisers, Pastor Dali Mizaya, expressed his delight at the success of the event.

“We are excited with the turnout, the artists have done a great job and more exciting is the fact that young people have heard about Jesus today, we want young people to know that true independence and freedom is found in Jesus,” he said.

One of the patrons, Elizabeth Banda, hailed the festival saying it is one of her favourites.

“This festival is always a highlight of the year for me. It is a wonderful mix of music and culture where I also get to hear the gospel and be entertained for free,” she said.

The festival featured performances from several notable artists, including Breach, Kelvin Sings, Lawi, Theresa Phondo, Gwamba, and Eli Njuchi as each one brought their unique style to the stage.
