DJ Moda thrills inmates at Zomba Prison

Disc jockey (DJ) Moda last week turned Zomba Central Prison into a theatre of entertainment with a performance which left the inmates craving more.

The Zomba-based DJ, real name Kalinga Moda, organised the event to entertain the inmates in conjunction with prison officials.

Before entertaining the inmates, DJ Moda donated exercise books, pens and boxes of chalk to inmates studying at the correctional facility’s Mount View School.

The three-hour gig saw the inmates trooping to the dance floor, particularly after the DJ started playing Anthony Makondetsa’s Muyuda.

“We feel relieved when authorities bring entertainers to this place. The coming of DJ Moda has removed anxieties from many of us here. We hope that this trend will continue,” said one of the inmates who refused to be named.

Speaking on the donation, DJ Moda said he felt privileged to assist the inmates at the prison’s Mount View School.

“The people who are in prison, serving various sentences, are like anybody else. The only difference is that they are confined in one place for rehabilitation.

“Some are pursuing various studies and I believe the donation will assist them do well and get employment when they get released. Who knows?” he said.

Zomba Central Prison assistant superintendent Kondwani Mzumara hailed the initiative, saying the facility values such gestures from individuals and organisations. n
