Door shut for Bokosi, as Eagles soften up on CJ

TNM Super League joint top goalscorer Innocent Bokosi’s search for greener pasture is up in smoke after Costa Do Sol shut the door on the Red Lions marksman.

The Mozambican club has been chasing the striker since last season, but the player was waiting for permission from his employer Malawi Defence Force.

The permission only came last week, but it was too late as the club had opted to look elsewhere for a striker, according to agent James Pondamale.

“The transfer window is closing end of this month. Time is running out for the club. They were not even sure if the player would be allowed to go to Mozambique. They couldn’t wait any longer,” Pondamale said.

In a related development, Blue Eagles have softened up on midfielder John CJ Banda who is on the verge of joining Ferroviaro de Nampula.

The Malawi Police Service side has agreed to loan out the player to the Mozambique side at a year-long loan fee of $7 500 (about K6 million).

However, the Mocambola side wants to get the player at $5 000 (about K4 million).

Pondamale said he was optimistic that a compromise would be reached between the two clubs.

Initially, Eagles demanded $20 000 (about K30 million) each for CJ and striker Schumacher Kuwali.

The two players, who accompanied Ferroviaro to South Africa for pre-season tour, returned on Monday.

Eagles general manager Gabriel Chirwa said they would meet the two players before making a decision.

“We are waiting for a report from the players. We will find out if they are interested to join the team after their experiences and a decision will be made based on that,” Chirwa said. n
