DPP accused of demolishing bridge
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of petty party politics ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for today.
Speaking at a rally in Mzuzu on Thursday, MCP aspiring candidate for Chibanja Ward, Charles Mlogera, alleged that DPP enthusiasts demolished a bridge he constructed in the area.
He said: “They used a DPP pickup and demolished the bridge, saying they want to construct a better one.”
DPP regional governor (North) Kenneth Sanga denied the allegations, saying the bridge in question was in poor state and the DPP moved in to construct a durable one.
He said: ““It is not true to say we demolished a bridge. They had better tell the truth than start propagating lies if the going is getting tough for them.”
Chakwera advised his supporters in the area to refrain from retaliation when provoked.
Chibanja is one of the five wards where by-elections are to take place due to death of previous councillors. The other wards are Luchenza in Luchenza Municipal Council, Zomba Central in Zomba City Council, Msikisi in Mangochi Town Council and Khwawa in Karonga.
