Newcomer to Parliament, Mangochi Nkungulu legislator Aisha Mambo Adams has advised President Peter Mutharika not to repeat mistakes of the former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration, but spread development across the country.

In her contribution to the State of the Nation Address, the former Radio Islam presenter also advised the new President to have a listening ear, digest suggestions and act accordingly.

“Others [past presidents] delivered colourful speeches, but implementation was a problem. I ask the Peter Mutharika DPP to avoid the deadly mistakes of the former DPP,” she said.

Adams said such a good initiative as the Farm Input Subsidy programme (Fisp) was ruined by governing parties, resulting in very few people benefiting.

She gave an example of beneficiaries, in her constituency, who would share a bag of subsidised fertiliser amongst four people.

Adams also bemoaned the low number of women in Parliament, likening their sparse numbers to tomatoes in a salad, much to the amusement of the whole House.
