Following the victory, the lakeshore outfit has now opened a five-point gap at the top. They have 34 points while second-placed Msundwe United are on 29 points.

Kondwani Bag scored a hat-trick, Jack Chiona had a brace and Kingsley Kapalamula scored a consolation for Mchinji.

Dwangwa’s team manager Davie Mwandira reiterated that come rain or sunshine his team will win the championship and earn promotion into the Super League next season.

“There is a lot of support from sponsors, executive committee and the fans. The atmosphere is good for players no wonder they are performing well,” said Mwandira.

On the loss to Support Battalion, Mwandira said they were unlucky.

“It was one of those days when things don’t just work. But it was good that we recovered and won the following day.”

Support Battalion assistant coach Manto Lampu said they will catch up with Dwangwa and overtake them soon.

“We have been focusing on two fronts—the Carlsberg Cup and the league. It has been kind of tough, but we will catch up and win the league. It’s just a matter of time. Let them enjoy their moment in the sun,” said Lampu.
