Malawi’s new President Joyce Banda has appointed one of the longest serving officers in the Malawi Police Service (MPS), Commissioner Loti Dzodzi, as the new Inspector General of Police.
Dzodzi replaces the out-going IG Peter Mukhito who becomes the first casualty of the post Bingu wa Mutharika era.
Mukhito has been fired barely a day after Banda assumed office as Malawi’s Head of State, following the death of Mutharika on April 5 due to a cardiac arrest.
According to a press statement monitored on State broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), the appointment is with effect from this Sunday.
