Blue Eagles on Saturday beat Mighty Wanderers 2-0 at Nankhaka Stadium to consolidate their lead on the TNM Super League table with 16 points.

The visitors found themselves 1-0 down by half-time.

A goal from Schumaker Kuwali just four minutes into the game forced Wanderers to play under pressure.

In the entire first-half they could not muster worthwhile offence to unlock Eagles’ defence of Steve Chagoma, Innocent Wonder, Maxwell Masiyano and Grant Zakumboyo.

In the second-half, Wanderers removed Timothy Chitedze for Victor Mpinganjira, but the substitution failed to work. Instead, it was the hosts who stepped up the gear.

Junior Malidadi could have killed the game for Eagles in a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Bester Phiri who parried the ball in the 76th minute.

The resultant corner-kick was buried into the net by Charles Ngosi to put the game beyond Wanderers.

The loss means Wanderers have earned just a point in five games.

Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuwona was full of praise for his charges, saying they put up a gallant fight.

“It was team effort and everyone put up a great fight. It is not easy to win against a big team like Wanderers. We have done it, but we won’t be complacent,” said Msakakuwona in a post-match brief.

Wanderers coach Charles Manda cast a dejected shadow after the final whistle.

“We conceded early and the goal demoralised the players. We tried to come into the game in the second-half but their defence was organised. We must recover from this loss and focus on the Civo game tomorrow,” said Manda.
