Blue Eagles yesterday beat Moyale Barracks 2-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe to wing into the semi-finals of the Fisd Challenge Cup.

Striker Schumacher Kuwali was the toast of the afternoon for the Malawi Police Service (MPS) side after claiming a brace, one in each half.

Following the victory, the Area 30-based cops will face Silver Strikers who booted out Nyasa Big Bullets 3-2 in post-match penalties after playing out a one-all draw in regulation time on Saturday.

Scored both goals: Kuwali

In the other semi-final, lower league side Hangover FC, who sent holders Be Forward Wanderers packing with a 2-1 victory on Friday, will face Kamuzu Barracks (KB).

KB dismissed fellow TNM Super League outfit Savenda Chitipa United 3-0.

In yesterday’s match, John Malidadi Jnr set up Kuwali for the first goal in the 15th minute with a lob that escaped defender Casper Jeremiah and Kuwali was well positioned to control the ball and place it beyond the reach of Moyale goalkeeper MacDonald Harawa.

Moyale countered soon after. A long ball from captain Lloyd Njaliwa was chested down by Deus Nkutu in Eagles half and he played it to the advancing Gastin Simkonda who headed over the bar.

Moments later, Simkonda again came close, but headed over the bar from a Vitumbiko Kumwenda cross.

Eagles led 1-0 at interval.

The second half was action packed with both teams creating chances, but could to utilise them.

Kuwali, who was also named man-of-the-match, then put Eagles in the comfort zone in the 75th minute and again Malidadi was the architect with a fine dink which Kuwali cooly slotted in between Harawa’s legs.

Moyale continued to press, breaking Eagles defence at will but their last touch always betrayed them and true to coach Collins Nkuna’s post match interview, the result did not reflect the actual play.

Said Nkuna: “We have ourselves to blame. We were much better than Blue Eagles and had most of the chances, but we failed to make them count.”

Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona had words of praise for Kuwali.

“The whole team did well, but Kuwali was exceptionally good. He was very influential. The two goals he scored were outstanding and his sense of positioning was incredible. It a great win today. Moyale were very good,” he said.
