Blue Eagles FC players have shared K3.5 million ($21 000) from their K5 million ($30 000) Standard Bank Knockout Cup prize money.

Eagles chairperson Elijah Kachikuwo yesterday said the figure represents 70 percent of the prize money.

“Management felt the bulk of the prize money should go to the players as a token of appreciation for a job well done,” Kachikuwo said.

He also hinted that the remaining K1.5 million ($9 000) will go towards the club’s coffers and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“We might donate part of the money to an orphanage or a hospital as part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said.

Kachikuwo said players that had more appearances pocketed K180 000 each while the lowest got K35 000 ($210) each.

“Those that got as little as K35 000 were the ones that did not even play in the matches and we felt it was a fair deal,” said Kachikuwo.

The Eagles ended their 16-year silverware drought when they beat Moyale 2-1 in the finals to win the cup.

Their talisman John Banda was also the top scorer with four goals and got K100 000 ($598) for his feat.
