Blue Eagles general secretary Mabvuto Mbobo has partly attributed the cops’ failed 2014 TNM Super League bid to logistical challenges caused by budgetary reduction due to the prevailing economic squeeze.

“We had so many problems, so you can say our boys tried their best because there was no balance between input and output. We had little input, but we still managed to finish on position three,” Mbobo said last week.

“Money has to be there for the team to achieve their goal. Due to prevailing economic problems, our budget was reduced considerably as more funds were channelled towards our core responsibility which is crime prevention.”

He could not mention the actual figures, saying it was an internal matter. Going forward, Mbobo said the committee which Dr. George Kainja heads will try to lobby for more funding next season.

The Eagles coach Derklerk Msakakuona,, separately said he, nonetheless, was impressed they managed a third place finish. Last season, the Eagles finished fifth.

“We always told the boys to concentrate on football and leave all other off the field challenges to our administrators who we feel, in the prevailing circumstances, tried their best to support us,” Msakakuona said on Friday.

Club captain John Banda, who missed crucial last games due to injury, earlier seemed to share the coach’s sentiments that the cops had improved their performance this season.
