Having fought gallantly at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland, Malawi Queens have caught the eyes of England and Jamaica who want to engage them in friendly matches.

England is rated third while Jamaica is fourth on the world netball rankings.

Confirming the request on Friday, Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) general secretary Carol Bapu said Malawi has nodded to both.

“I can confirm that two teams, namely, England and Jamaica have shown interest to play with us. We are happy to have been invited by such big teams in the world. This shows that they have confidence in us that we can give them a good run,” said Bapu.

She added that the matches will not only help players to be fit, but also to accord the team a chance to break into top four class.

“This is a great opportunity because the game will provide us a good stand if we are to spark in the world netball circles come World Championship slated August next year. Our aim is to slot in that top group,” said Bapu.

The Queens made an outstanding performance at the just ended 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games by retaining position five on the globe and first in Africa after thumping their usual rivals, South Africa’s Proteas.

Other teams that the Queens beat were Scotland, the host, Northern Ireland and Saint Lucia.
