If I were

Enoch Chakufwa Chihana

Minister of Youth and Sports, I would seriously consider the advice given by the Football Association of Malawi ((FAM) that Saturday’s Presidential Cup final match between Big Bullets and Moyale Barracks should not be free for all.

I would appreciate, if I were Hon. Chihana, that going ahead with the plans to have fans enter for free is recipe for disaster considering that of late football is attracting huge crowds; hence, there will be a high risk of security.

How I wish I were dada Chihana, because I would appreciate that the system is against the spirit of empowering football teams and institutions in the form of revenue.

Yes, the current regime stands to gain political mileage by declaring free entry as has been the case in the past, but I surely would consider the consequences.

If only I were the Sports Minister, I would reverse the decision because even if people will pay to get a glimpse of the action, there will still be a huge turnout considering that this is a cup final.

I would appreciate, if I were Chihana, that government will be doing it at its own peril should it stick to its guns on free entry.

That is if only I were Hon. Chihana. Unfortunately, I am not the Sports Minister.
