The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi (ELCM) has launched a health policy at a function that took place in Blantyre last Thursday.

Reverend Thomas Sandasi said the goal of the policy is to reduce by 50 percent deaths from malaria, HIV and Aids and tuberculosis (TB) by increasing access to treatment among vulnerable communities.

“We will focus on women, under-five children, the elderly and widows. We have already raised funds for implementing the project,” said Sandasi.

He said as part of implementing the policy the church has secured bakery and rice processing equipment from its donors.

“The equipment has been given to Mwanyawa Feeding Centre and Nkhuba Feeding Centre. Both centres are located in the rural areas of Blantyre,” said Sandasi.

ELCM will also use the document to guide its members on mitigating and managing the effects of climate change, according to Sandasi.
