The Zimbabwe national team, Warriors, coach Raman Gumbo has resigned, Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) announced at the weekend.

Gumbo, former Mighty Wanderers coach, made the announcement last Thursday, just hours before a Zifa board meeting. His resignation came after a Zifa high-performance technical committee recommended appointment of a foreign coach.

Gumbo departs more than a month after the Warriors were edged out of qualifiers of the Africa Cup of Nations on away goal rule against Angola.

Zimbabwe won the first leg 3-1 at home in September, but missed the trip to the finals after losing 2-0 in Luanda mid October. The last time the Warriors were at Afcon finals was in 2006.

Gumbo has coached Warriors since January 2012, when he took over from Norman Mapeza who was suspended for allegedly being involved in the country’s long-running match fixing saga.
