FAM Beach Soccer Cup commences August 29
Beach Soccer Malawi (BSM) has announced that the K5 million FAM Beach Soccer Cup will kick off next week Saturday.
Briefing The Nation on Wednesday, BSM general secretary Davies Sado said currently they have asked teams to start registering if they are to be eligible for participation.
The beach centres in the country are Salima, Mangochi, Chintheche and Karonga.
“We are encouraging all those wishing to compete in the tournament to start registration with committees in all the four centres. We want as many teams as possible to take part,” said Sado.
The Beach Soccer tournament sponsorship package has increased from K2 million to K5 million as an incentive to motivate the teams and ensure stiff competition.
However, he could not give a breakdown as to how much is the prize for national and regional champions.
“We are yet to meet and agree on the breakdown for prizes as an executive. The national committee will meet within the week to determine prizes for both regional competitions and the national tournament,” said Sado.
Sado has since appealed to teams wishing to take part to work on building strong clubs because the tournament will be used to scout talent by the national coach Sterio Gondwe.
The beach soccer national team came second in their maiden participation at the Cosafa Games in Seychelles in May this year.
