Fam halts player’s transfer

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has put on hold striker Promise Kamwendo’s transfer deal from PremierBet Dedza Dynamos to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers pending further investigations.

This follows a complaint lodged by FCB Nyasa Bullets that they had  agreed a transfer  with the Dedza-based outfit to sign the player, including remittance of a transfer fee of K3 million before he signed for their arch rivals .

FAM club licensing and compliance manager Casper Jangale said in an interview yesterday that they asked Dedza, the player and his manager to submit reports on the issue by close of business yesterday (Thursday).

Centre of controversy: Kamwendo

He said: “Meanwhile, we have informed Sulom [Super League of Malawi] and those involved in player transfer on Mpira Connect to put the transaction on hold until it is investigated and a decision is made.”

Dedza chief executive officer Flera Kulemelo confirmed receipt of FAM’s letter.

“We sought guidance from our legal adviser and we should submit the report by close of business today,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kamwendo has come out of his shell to speak on his controversial move to Wanderers, saying it was the choice he made after weighing options.

The forward sparked controversy when he signed for the Nomads on Monday evening, hours after he was expected to be unveiled by Bullets.

The 26-year-old was quoted by  Wanderers Facebook Page on Wednesday,  as having said:  “I chose Wanderers because that is where my heart is.

“Everyone has the right to decide where he wants to go and my choice was Wanderers not Bullets.”

He also thanked the team’s fans, fellow players, coaches and management for according him a warm welcome.

“I can’t promise anything for now, but I will try my best to make a difference,” said Kamwendo.

Bullets have since lodged a complaint to FAM on how the issue was handled.

Apparently, Wanderers also paid Dedza Dynamos K4 million as transfer fee.
