FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda has said the local football governing body is looking for funds to hold an indaba for referees, club officials and soccer fans to share knowledge on updated football rules.

Nyirenda said during the closing ceremony of the Fifa/Caf Member Associations Referees Elite Course at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre on Friday that the meeting could help to solve misunderstandings and acts of violence that characterised games in recent past.

“At present, most club officials and soccer fans are adhered to the outdated football rules while the referees use updated rules when officiating games. As a result, this brews confusion and mistrust. We need to move on the same path if we are to bring sanity in the soccer fraternity,” said Nyirenda.

He said referees need to sit down with club officials and fans to clarify enlighten them on some controversial judgments they make during games such as deciding an offside position.

National Referees Committee (NRC) chairperson Patrick Kapanga and Civo United vice-chairperson Dean Josiah-Banda welcomed the development saying it is the right step towards solving officiation problems in the country.
