The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has lived up to its promise to reward national team players after a good run at the just ended Cosafa Cup that took place in South Africa.

FAM promised to pay the players a special bonus after the team qualified for the quarter-finals.

Flames players have pocketed special bonuses

The Flames lost to Zambia on post-match penalties and competed in Plate section where they also lost to South Africa on post-match penalties as well.

Though the team did not win any silverware FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda said apart from the normal K100 000 bonus  for a win and K50 000 for a draw, the players got an extra K200 000.

This means each player got K550 000 since they beat Seychelles, Namibia and Comoros and drew against Mozambique.

Flames captain John CJ Banda confirmed that the players have received their dues.

“This will act as a great motivation for players. We will always want to give more,” said the captain from his base in Mozambique.

The skipper also appealed to his fellow players to maintain discipline both on and off the pitch.
