Football Association of Malawi (FAM) yesterday said it is not aware that the Flames wore two different brands—Puma jerseys and Umbro shorts—in last Saturday’s second leg of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations second preliminary round away in N’djamena.

According to earlier communication from FAM, the Flames were supposed to put on red and white stripped Umbro kit, but according to the match monitored on MBC TV, they wore green jerseys and black shorts.

“I would not really know why they wore two different brands. However, the arrangement was that they would put on the Umbro red and white stripped jerseys, white shorts and red pair of socks.

“I will have to find out why there was a change,” said FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu recently told The Nation that they are on the verge of sealing a technical sponsorship deal with Umbro that may lead to the sportswear firm manufacturing a tailor-made kit in the next three to four months.

“We cannot dictate to the manufacturer on the deadlines and schedules because they also have bookings by other customers. The process of manufacturing a tailor-made kit is not an overnight exercise. What we took was not our choice, it was what was available on the shelf,” said Nyamilandu.
