Fama final nets K3.1m

The K12.5 million Fellowship Association of Malawi (Fama) finals between Big Bullets and Blue Eagles realised a cool K3.1 million in gate collections.

Fama organising secretary Japhet Majekete confirmed the figure in an interview on Sunday.

Civo Stadium was filled to capacity and fans had to sit on the sidewalks.

There were no ticket sales at the VIP stand because of the presence of the Vice-President Khumbo Kachali and his entourage, which included security personnel and government officials.

“Most of the revenue was collected from open stands because we had to close the VIP stand to respect the presence of the Vice-President and Cabinet ministers. But, overall, we are pleased with the amount collected,” said Majekete.

“We also would want to thank the Vice-President and the Minister of Sports for giving glamour to the event through their presence. We were humbled by their presence,” he said.

The finalists will not take anything from the gate collections as per agreement, according to Majekete.

We paid for the ground, security and First Aiders only, but the rest is for Fama. That is the arrangement we made.

Meanwhile, Fama has announced the introduction of a Fama Cup Winners Cup to run in September.

“This tournament is for winners of the Standard Bank Cup, Presidential Cup and their runners-up. We are targeting four teams only. We are liaising with the Football Association of Malawi if they can accommodate the tournament in September,” said Majekete.

He said they are yet to come up with the amount of sponsorship.
