FDH Bank Cup quarter-finals set

Listen to this article

FDH Bank Cup enters the quarter-finals phase this afternoon as defending champions FCB Nyasa Bullets take on Extreme FC at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe while Bangwe All Stars host Mafco at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

For Bullets, this will be their second meeting with Extreme FC after the defending champions narrowly edged the rookies 1-0 in the TNM Super League first round tie at the same venue.

But Extreme FC are not strangers in FDH Bank Cup.

Kamwendo: Football is a game of pressure

Last year they made it to the semi-finals where they lost 2-1 to Bullets Reserves at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

This afternoon they meet the seniors of the team responsible for their exit in the last edition and the match promises the thrills.

However, Extreme coach Elvis Kafoteka said they are not looking at what happened in the past.

“That was last season; this is another season,” he said after beating Mbabvi 1-0 in round of 16 on Wednesday.

The former Flames right back said they expect a tough match.

“But for sure we are going through,” he said.

In the other quarter-final set for this afternoon, Bangwe All Stars hope to utilise home ground advantage as they take on Mafco at Mpira Stadium.

The match also promises fireworks considering that both sides managed to boot out Lilongwe giants Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles in the round of 16.

Mafco knocked out Eagles 5-3 on post-match penalties at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota while Bangwe beat Civil  1-0.

Newly-appointed Bangwe All Stars interim coach Joseph Kamwendo was confident that the team will continue its excellent run.

He said: “Chances are very high for us, especially since we are playing at home, and also, the team is on a good run and we just have to continue from there.”

Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar host Moyale Barracks at Dedza Stadium.

Meanwhile, Santhe FC will wait for the winner between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Zingwangwa United  tomorrow at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
