Festive sweeping exercise nets 121

Police in the Northern Region have arrested 121 people in sweeping exercises being conducted to ensure a crime free festive season.

Northern Region Police deputy spokesperson Maurice Chapola said in an interview the 121 were arrested in various districts in the region.

Chapola: We want a safe society

He said some were arrested for rogue and vagabond, earning a living on prostitution and theft and some wanted criminals were also cornered.

Said Chapola: “We have intensified sweeping exercises and road traffic checks to create a safe and crime free society as well as traffic accident free festive season.

“We have arrested 121 suspects for different offences ranging from rogue and vagabond, earning living on prostitution and theft as some wanted criminals were also cornered.

“Traffic police officers are also being deployed on all roads to combat various crimes. Vehicles will be checked if they are roadworthy and ensure that drivers observe speed limit, sitting capacity and that they are sober.

“The police further advise members of the general public to ensure that animals are grazed away from the road and that they don’t ply their businesses on the road.”

The police have also embarked on sensitisation campaigns to tip the public how to can prevent crime.n

  1. This exercise should be conducted all year round not only during the festivities period. How come, the police seems to have enough resources to conduct such operations only during xmas and new year period?
    It seems the police all along knew where they can get these criminals but only decide to arrest them during xmas………
