Fetch Queens secure funding

Northern Region 2010 Presidential netball champions Fetch Queens can now afford a smile after securing sponsorship from Mzuzu City parliamentarian Professor Peter Mwanza.

Fetch Queens team manager Tamara Fweta confirmed the news in an interview on Thursday.

“Yes, our cry [for sponsorship] has been heard by the Mzuzu City legislator after we approached him,” said Fweta.

She said it is a big relief to them considering that they have been withdrawing from many competitions due to lack of funding.

“We failed to compete in the 2011-12 Nico Life and Presidential trophies because we had no sponsor, but the coming in of the Mzuzu City parliamentarian is a big boost; and we have since renamed ourselves Mimosa Queens to honour him,” said Fweta who vowed to guard the sponsorship by being disciplined on and off the court besides winning titles.

Mwanza confirmed the development saying he wants the sponsorship to keep girls away from dangerous behaviours and also help Malawi maintain its top position in Africa in netball.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) general secretary Hellen Mpinganjira and the Northern Region sports development officer Georgina Msowoya have hailed Mwanza for his kind gesture.

The news comes at a time when Mzuzu City lawyer Davie Lameck has also pledged to sponsor another netball giant, Mzuzu Queens.
