Fisp fertiliser did not reach Karonga—Dado
Karonga District did not receive 20 tonnes of its allocated Farm Input Subsidy Programme (Fisp) fertiliser for the 2012/2013 year.
District agricultural development officer (Dado) Steve Sibande Sibande made the disclosure last week when the Kalondolondo Programme officers visited the district to assess how Fisp faired this year.
Kalondolondo is an advocacy and community empowerment project, which started in 2008 by a consortium of Plan Malawi, Action Aid and Council for Non-governmental Organisation (Congoma).
Its objective is to enable people from rural areas to voice out their appreciation of delivery services and focuses much on education, water and sanitation, agriculture and health.
Amos Chindamba, programme coordinator for Future Planning for the Child (FPC) presented the organisation’s findings which showed a negative picture of the whole Fisp programme.
The issue of bags of fertiliser came when officials responded to some of the findings.
“As we are meeting today, 10 tons of 23:21.0-4S and 10 tons of Urea have not reached Karonga. This totals 20 tons and we do not know what happened to the fertiliser,” said Sibande.
Kalondolondo programme manager Jephter Mwanza slammed the tendency of demanding money to sell fertiliser.
