Flames finish 2014 on position 90

Malawi national football team, the Flames, have finished the year ranked 90 after rising by four places on December 2014 Fifa/Coca-Cola ranking released today onwww.fifa.com

The revised ranking has the Flames maintaining their 26th position in Africa out of 55 teams, while lying fourth from 14 teams in Southern Africa.

Ahead of Malawi in Southern Africa, are the region’s top rated side Zambia.

The Chipolopolo are ninth in Africa and 46th in the world with Bafana Bafana placed 52 in the world and10th in Africa. Angola are 80th in the world and 12 in Africa.

Algeria remain number one in Africa with Djibouti as the least ranked on the continent.

Tunisia, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, Congo, Cameroun and Africa champions Nigeria are the other teams that are placed in order of their positions after Algeria.

2014 Fifa World Cup kings Germany still lead the world followed by Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Netherlands, Brazil, Portugal, France, Spain and Uruguay completing the world’s top ten.

The best-ranked teams by confederation are Germany (1st), Argentina (2nd), Costa Rica (16th), Algeria (18th), Iran (51st) and New Zealand (134th).
