Flashback: Flames in trainingflames

FAM has said the Flames will not break camp and are expected to resume training tomorrow in preparation for next weekend’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations second preliminary round, first leg against Chad slated for Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Flames were expected back home last evening from Mbeya, Tanzania, where they played a friendly match against the Taifa Stars, which ended goalless.

“Time is running out, we cannot afford to break camp. They will just be given a day to rest and then on Wednesday, it will back to business,” said Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chief executive officer, Suzgo Nyirenda

He said the association is still discussing with government as regards funding.

According to FAM, the Flames need K75 million for the games against Chad and K40 million for the Under-20 national soccer team engagements against the DR Congo. The Junior Flames’ first leg is slated for Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Meanwhile, Flames assistant coach Jack Chamangwana has said the Tanzania friendly game was beneficial.

“The strategy was to see how we could approach an away game and I think it worked,” said Chamangwana.
