Zambian movie director, Owas Ray Mwape, who directed the movie Chenda, which stars Malawian Flora Suya in the leading role, sang praises for the actress’ acting capabilities, describing her as a professional and a hard worker.
“She delivered her character 110 percent… I have always said character will take you where talent fails you and Flora’s character sold it. She took her time to understand the character she is playing before getting on set. She mastered her lines from the script and she is very good with linguistic transformation. Her Chichewa was delivered amicably and so was her English,” said Mwape.
The director said he has realised that there is a lot of talent in Malawi and he plans to come and scout for his next three productions.
“I will come later this year to hold auditions where I can find actors who will be cast in my productions,” said Mwape.
And in and interview upon her return, Suya said she was excited to act in a foreign movie, but at the same time did know not what to expect since it was the first time for her to star in a foreign production.
“What made me work even harder was the fact that from the little they heard about me, they trusted me with the major role. And I did not want to let them down. I never wanted to let Malawi down,” said Suya.
Chenda is expected to be released for audiences next month.
