The 2015 FMB 11-A-Side Southern Region Hockey League (SRHL) springs into action today at Country Club Limbe (CCL) where two men’s matches and a similar number of women encounters are set to warm the field.

According to SRHL treasurer, Levi Kumwenda, a game between Braves Ladies and Scorpion Ladies will be the first to take centre stage at 9.30am before a men’s match between Genetrix and Nyala at 11am.

“At 12.30pm, the field will be taken over by action between Lady Falcons and Genetrix Ladies, who will set the pace for the day’s last match involving military teams Changalume Barracks and Cobbe Sticks at 2pm,” he said.

This year, the number of men’s teams has increased to seven following the inclusion of Changalume, but the number of women’s outfits has remained at six.

Genetrix are the reigning champions in the men’s category while Nyala and Scorpions finished as runners-up and third-positioned team, respectively.

In the women’s section, Genetrix Ladies took the glory as Sports Complex Simba and Braves Ladies settled for second and third places in that order.

FMB are sponsoring this year’s competition to the tune of K2 million after increasing the financial backing by K500 000. The contest runs up to November. n
