FMB Under-20 League extends to Balaka

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has disclosed that the FMB Under-20 League currently being played in the country’s major cities will this year extend to Balaka.

FAM executive member Raphael Humba revealed this on Sunday at Balaka Stadium during the finals of a two-day Balaka Under-14 Football Bonanza.

Humba, who is also Southern Region Football Committee (SRFC) chairperson, asked teams to get ready for the competition.

“All teams with Under-20 sides should get ready because the FMB Under-20 League is now coming here soon. It was agreed that the competition should be extended to other districts and Balaka was earmarked to be one of them,” he said.

Humba also said the Under-14 competition will continue to promote football talent among youngsters.

During the finals, Invincible lifted the maiden Balaka Under-14 trophy after beating Young Boys 2-0 in an exhilarating match.

For emerging winners, Invincible received K7 000 (about $17.50) and the runners-up went away with K5 000 (about $12.50).

St Egidio came third after trashing Maphunziro Academy 6-5 on post-match penalties and received K3 500 (about $8.75) and K2 500 (about $6.25) respectively.

Humba commended the organisers for coming up with a K20 000 (about $50) bonanza for children under.
