While the South and the Centre are in week five of the ongoing K8 million FMB Under-20 League, the North is yet to roll out the league.

Northern Region Youth Football Committee general secretary Mwabi Mwanza said the delay to start the league was due to failure by teams to bring players to the committee for verification of their ages.

“We were supposed to start the league in early April as our friends did in other regions, but the teams were not bringing players for age-screening. In the first call-up we made, only four teams showed up. But I can assure you that we will start in the coming weekend,” said Mwanza.

He said out of 24 teams that are expected to compete in the league, 14 are from Mzuzu City while 10 are from Nkhata Bay.

Leading teams in Mzuzu and Nkhata Bay will face each other for qualification for national finals in October against other regional champions.
