Fomboni ‘keeper rushed to hospital

Fomboni FC goaltender Zairo Assane had to be rushed to Chitawira Private Hospital on arrival in Blantyre in the early hours of yesterday after developing high blood pressure.

Big Bullets FC executive committee member Dan Mbebuwa, who met the team at Lunzu from Lilongwe, said Assane suddenly fell unconscious in Dedza when the team was refuelling.

hospital“According to reports that I have gathered from the officials and the team guide, he started feeling dizzy and then fell unconscious, but later regained consciousness.

“When I was taking him to the hospital, he was not in good condition, but his condition is now stable after receiving treatment. According to doctors, it was due to high blood pressure,” said Mbebuwa.

He said the Fomboni goalkeeper, who comes from Madagascar, was treated as an outpatient.

Fomboni’s Malawian midfielder Wister Phiri suspected the ‘keeper’s blood pressure might have been caused by the long trip from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Fomboni are camping at Dorvic Hotel in Chirimba and were expected to have their first training session at Kamuzu Stadium in the morning of Thursday.
