Youth Consultative Forum (YCF) has hailed the youth across the country for their outstanding conduct in the just-ended tripartite elections.

In a statement signed by YCF’s national coordinator Edward Chileka-Banda, the forum says it is pleased with the manner youths participated in the campaigning, voting and monitoring of the election.

“The youth have contributed to the elections being largely peaceful except for a few incidents of violence,” reads the statement.

The forum says the youth now need to be part of the implementation of various commitments contained in the party campaign manifestos in line with the legal and policy instruments such as the National Youth Policy, African Youth Charter and the post-2015 development agenda formulation process.

Speaking in an interview, Nation Youth Council of Malawi executive director Aubrey Chibwana urged the youth to remain vibrant in their contribution to the nation’s development.

He said the youth sector has to lobby for reasonable resources that can help translate both political and national aspirations into meaningful change.

“The youth should look at the ruling Democratic Progressive Party’s [DPP] manifesto to detail a road map that links such instruments as National Youth Policy and the Youth Charter,” said Chibwana.
