Bottom Up

Four years that defined Malawi

Listen to this article

We, Sheikh-Philippe LePossion, SC, Abiti Joyce Befu, also known MG 66, Native Authority Mandela, Innocett Mawayawaya, also known as Achoke Achoke Achoke or A3, are stunned, flabbergasted, confused, terrified, and bemused at the state of Malawi, our fatherland, our home.  If we really dream to resurrect as a country we need to put aside partisan tribal-cum-ethnic interests. That is what Rwanda did in the wake of the 1994 internecine massacres.  As verse of Malawi’s National Anthem puts it, we need to be selfless and accept the will of the majority. We need to be sure those who genuinely win elections govern the country.    Now is not the time for us to abuse the courts when a proper recount of the votes or rerun would spare this country violence.

And why doesn’t anyone move the constitutional court? This matter is constitutional as much as it is about wanton theft of the voices of the people.

We have no further words. The table above sums up what this country has gone through in just four years.  We do not need a TB Joshua to learn that if this trend continues, our country, our Malawi, our motherland, will be a failed state. The journey to failure of statehood starts with national inability and unwillingness to take the correct path to stop banditry and abuse of the pillars of integrity.
