Fraudster gets 28-month jail sentence

The Midima Magistrate’s Court in Limbe, Blantyre, has sentenced 28-year-old Emmanuel Zefa to two years and four months imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 319 of the Penal Code.

Limbe Police Station spokesperson Pedzisai Zembeneko said the convict booked 10 rooms at Kumadzi Rest house at Kachere Township in the city where he claimed to be an employee of a construction company.

Zembeneko: They suspected foul play

“Furthermore, he borrowed K20 000 from the owner of the rest house, promising to pay back later after cashing a cheque,” he said.

According to Zembeneko, the rest house owner did not suspect anything.

The convict further obtained more money from some unsuspecting people who lodged at the facility. He was later arrested after some people suspected foul play, according to police.

Zefa comes from Ntonya Village, Traditional Authority Mulumbe in Zomba.
