Gabadinho’s father steps in wrangle

Gabadinho Mhango’s family has intervened on Big Bullets’ failure to pay 15 percent cut to Brave Warriors FC from the Flames’ striker’s K3 million transfer fee to South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtic last year.

The striker’s father, Society Mhango, stormed Blantyre last week to tell off Big Bullets Holdings Limited (BHL).

George Kapachika, secretary of BHL board of trustees, has challenged the family’s claim. The Bullets only paid K80 000 from the K300 000 transfer fee.

The Bullets’ general secretary Harold Fote, whose administration claim they need clarity from the previous executive committee on the actual fee to ascertain the 15 percent, said they would wait for FAM determination on who owned the player in 2011.

“The father came all the way from Rumphi to say that Gaba was a minor when he was sold to BB; hence, the parents should have consented to this. They further said no other individual should claim any money and if there is payment, it has to go to the family. We have asked FAM to establish whether we have to pay the father or Kapachika,” Fote said on Tuesday.

The family, through Gabadinho’s guardian of that time, Mrs. S. Singini has since produced a letter they sent to the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) on August 11 2011, backing up their latest claim that he was a minor.

“I, guardian of the above mentioned player [spelt as Gabadinho Mhango], has a concern over how Gabadinho is being treated. Gabadinho is staying with me as guardian [sister] since July 2010 and trained with Brave Warriors for nine months without my consent,” reads the letter, from parents/guardians, to Sulom spelt as Sulam.

“I, therefore, would like to ask Sulam to intervene and seek advice from them, since the player is under 18 years of age.”

Kapachika on Tuesday insisted their demand for the cut, backed up the transfer agreement with the Bullets, and that the BHL would not deal with third parties [the family].

FAM transfer matching system manager Casper Jangale on Tuesday insisted that the player’s parents cannot intervene on the transfer wrangle.

Fifa regulations stipulate that an under-23 player cannot be sold on a transfer fee, but training compensation which is paid to all clubs the player graduated through until he reached 23. Gabadinho is now 21.
