A window of opportunity has opened for Nyasa Big Bullets defenders Miracle Gabeya and George Nyirenda who have attracted the interest of South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Chippa United.

The two fullbacks are set to start the trials today, both facilitator of the deal Patrick Mabedi and the club confirmed yesterday.

“We will appreciate if you give  permission to the players George Nyirenda and Miracle Gabeya to come to our club Chippa United FC on Wednesday July 6 for trials,” reads part of a letter signed by Chippa chief executive officer (CEO) Peter Koutroulis.

The duo is expected to leave for South Africa this morning and will be in the rainbow nation for unspecified period.

For Nyirenda, success will mean a return to a foreign club just a season after he left Zimbabwe’s Caps United.

Nyirenda said he was looking forward to clinching a deal with Chippa United.

“They wrote that we are attending trials, but I’m surprised they didn’t say how long we should be there. Whatever comes, I am prepared to impress the club’s technical panel. Otherwise, the executive has given us a blessing to go to South Africa,” he said.

This will be the second time for Gabeya to attend trials. He also had trials with another PSL side Bloemfontein Celtic two years ago.

Chippa United was founded in January 2010 when Chippa Mpengesi purchased the Vodacom League franchise of Paarl-based  Mbekweni Cosmos.

The team is coached by Dan Malesela. If successful Gabeya and Nyirenda will join three other foreigners, Nigeria duo goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi and James Okwuosa and Burkina Faso forward Aristide Bance. n
