Big Bullets and Malawi Under-20 national soccer team defender Miracle Gabeya flew out of the country on Monday for South Africa for trials with Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Bloemfontein Celtic.

According to Bullets chairperson Kondi Msungama, Celtic were impressed with Gabeya’s performance while on national duty with the Under-20 side in Botswana, where he put up a splendid show.

“We got a letter of invitation for trials on Sunday and apart from his travel expenses, they have committed to meeting all his expenses, including accommodation and food.

“Gabs is a hardworking and fantastic defender whom we were grooming to replace the likes of George Nyirenda and Sankhani Mkandawire, but from the look of things, we are most likely to lose him because I do not see him failing the trials. Infact, we cannot block him from the prospects of a brighter future,” said Msungama.

Before his departure at Chileka International Airport on Monday, Msungama and Bullets general secretary Harold Fote had a word of advice for Gabeya and asked him to give out something extra.

The player himself said he would work his socks off in order to impress.

“The good thing is that there are other established Malawian players at the club, Limbikani Mzava and Gabadinho Mhango as well as team manager John Maduka, and I will be looking up to them for advice and inspiration,” said Gabeya.

According to Msungama, Celtic have asked to assess him from today up to July 31.

“But they have stated that the trials could be cut short depending on how he will perform,” said Msungama.
