Garbage piles up in Ndirande

Blantyre City Council (BCC) director of health Dr. Emmanuel Kanjunjunju has said breakdown of vehicles and fuel scarcity are some of the challenges preventing the council from collecting garbage in time.

Kanjunjunju’s comments on Thursday follow concerns of uncollected refuse at Makata Minimarket next to Ndirande Anglican Church.

“The removal of the garbage is delayed by the breakdown of our vehicles coupled by the fuel scarcity. When we have a vehicle, we don’t have fuel and this situation has been like this for a long time. We are hopeful that by Monday, the work to remove the garbage will have started,” said Kanjunjunju.
